Gaudi took much of his inspiration in design from nature. In the “ Monumental Flight of Steps” and “ The Ramp” the rock work resembles grottoes and their grotesque sculpturing. His trencadis mosaic decoration often uses stylised shell shapes, particularly noticeable on the giant Salamander outside the Columns’ Room.
